Dynamics 365 Planning in 2026: Validate Roadmap Assumptions Before Migration

Plan Dynamics 365 changes around verified capability, licensing and your business process. Check current roadmap information before building a migration around a future feature.

Separate available capability from a plan

A roadmap entry is not proof that a feature is available in your environment. Check the product, region, license and release details that apply to your deployment. Record assumptions that could change the implementation scope.

Microsoft states that new Dynamics 365, Power Platform and Dataverse capabilities move to its AI at Work roadmap from September 2026. Use the current guidance rather than relying only on an older release-plan page.

Design around the process

Map sales, service or finance workflows before choosing customizations. Identify where standard configuration is sufficient and where integration or extension is justified. Review data ownership and security roles with the people who will use the system.

A useful migration plan includes the business decisions that technology cannot resolve, such as duplicate customer ownership or inconsistent approval rules.

Test adoption and cutover

Create representative test records and verify key journeys end to end. Plan reconciliation, training and support alongside the technical migration. Use a staged rollout where it reduces risk. Avoid promising benefits from an AI or automation feature until its actual workflow and controls have been assessed.

A practical next step

  • Verify features against current product guidance.
  • Record licensing and regional dependencies.
  • Resolve data and workflow ownership before migration.
  • Test cutover, reconciliation and user adoption.
