Salesforce Integration Problems: Plan for Limits, Retries and Record Ownership

A reliable Salesforce integration needs more than a working API call. Plan synchronization, record ownership and failure recovery around your actual operating constraints.

Agree on the source of truth

Decide which system owns each field and when updates move between applications. Two-way synchronization without clear ownership can create repeated changes, overwritten values and confusing support cases.

Document how merges, deletions and inactive records are represented. Include these events in the integration contract rather than treating them as rare exceptions.

Budget calls and delivery behavior

Salesforce’s integration documentation describes API limits and pattern choices. Check the current limits for your organization and workload instead of assuming a universal allowance. Consider batching, event-based delivery or scheduled synchronization where appropriate.

Keep retries bounded and preserve identifiers for operations that may already have succeeded. A timeout should not automatically create a duplicate lead or financial record.

Give failures an owner

Maintain a queue or report for records that could not synchronize. Make the reason and next action clear to the support team. Monitor lag and failed business transactions, not just successful requests. Include a reconciliation process for outages and schema changes so a working integration does not depend on manual guesswork.

A practical next step

  • Assign field-level record ownership.
  • Check current organization limits.
  • Make retries safe for duplicate-sensitive operations.
  • Design a reconciliation and support process.
